Featured Teacher

Emily Hewitt teaches Kundalini yoga and Yin yoga at Himalayan Yoga Academy. Emily is a long-timer in Rishikesh, one of the first expats who settled in the world's capital of yoga, for whom Rishikesh became the first home. Emily studied Kundalini yoga from her guru Gurumukh. In modern Kundalini yoga, there is probably no teacher more influential than Emily's gurus. Kundalini classes by Emily are active and full of energy. Kundalini meditations, which Emily's students adore her for, are full of love, subtle energies and feelings of oneness with all there is.

Yin yoga classes taught by Emily according to Paul Grilley (who authorized her personally to teach the system) are super-pleasant, relaxing, restorative. The method of Yin yoga is broadly based on modern miofascial theories and ancient Chinese acupuncture. Having done a Yin yoga class with Emily you'll forget about pain and tension in your body, trust us.

Apart from Kundalini and Yin yoga, Emily is a professional in Acro yoga. Acrobatic or Partner yoga is all about having fun in concentration. It's fun because postures of acro yoga, which you practice in a group, let the child within out; it's a concentration practice because acro requires solidity in both your body and mind tissues which consolidates your attention and consciousness.

Also, Emily Hewitt is good in body anatomy and its practical application in yoga and is able to provide precious advice on teaching to both novices and experienced ones.

Reviews by graduates

I was here in March 2016 and I'm so happy about my choice.

I was actually at another school before I met Stevie from Himalayan YA. He took time to answer all my questions and explained to me in depth about what HYA had to offer. I was looking for traditional yoga with Western teachings. Himalayan gave me just that, the best of both worlds which was really important to me as I was returning to the West to teach.

I had enjoyed yoga for many years but I had the knowledge lacking from my practice. I now can say that my eyes are more open to yoga than I ever imagined plus there are many bonuses to this course.

Many courses don't give much teaching time but HYA gives an extra 40 hours to concentrate on just that. Classes such as vocal training to lean how to fill the room with a calm but assertive voice which is forgotten about on other courses. I felt confident to lead a class because of this practice. I have met many other students who had completed their YTT who didn't have the confidence to teach months after graduating. I am truly grateful for this. Be warned this course is intensive but you have a good support system around you plus fun trips to help you relax and enjoy it for what it is :)

Loved the team and grateful for all that I have taken away with me :)
