What styles of yoga you teach?

We stick to traditional hatha yoga being the path to Raja Yoga based on Yoga Sutras by Patanjali, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita, Shiva Samhita and works of T. Krishnamacharya and B. K. S. Iyengar.

And, of course, the great Sukshma Vyayama Yoga as taught by the great Dhirendra Brahmacharya. In Himalayan Yoga Academy, the sukshma vyayama system is taught by the 105 years old yogi, Swami Yogananda Maharaj Babaji.

In our school, we put heavy emphasis on the ultimate goal of yoga which is chitta vritti nirodha according to Yoga Sutras. Keeping this goal in mind, one can practice whatever style of yoga he or she is more inclined to. We choose the 'middle way' of yoga practice which is hatha yoga.

Yoga is an ongoing experiment, we believe. Hence, we always incorporate other styles of yoga into our program in order to demonstrate the oneness of all the different practices. In our classes, you can normally find some elements from Iyengar yoga, some of Ashtanga Vinyasa, some of Kundalini yoga, some of Kriya yoga.

By saying 'yoga styles' here, we imply various ways to achieving the same goal which is self-realization, steadiness of mind, merging of the outer with the inner.

I completed my 240 Hour Teacher Training Course at the Himalayan Yoga Academy in March 2015.

It was one of the most enriching and life changing experiences I have undergone. The overall course allowed me to face and overcome some of my greatest fears. The teachers were all wonderful as they each provided a different yet inspiring and authentic approach to the practice of yoga. I made so many amazing friends that I still keep in touch with and learnt so much more about myself during the 6 week course.

I left India with a new zest to want to learn everything I could about Yoga and am so grateful for the time I had there.
